Re: PEX to Polybutylene Coupling
A lot of my insulation is missing too but maybe for different reasons. Originally it looks like plumbers did some work in laundry room and bathrooms and just removed insulation because it was in the way and never replaced it. They didn't seal up the holes very well and then animals moved in-raccons,...

Re: basement addition
Not to be a wet blanket here but wouldn't it be much cheaper and easier to just move in a double wide?

Belly repair
So my next project is to repair the Belly Board which was invaded by raccoons. They ripped some holes and totally flattened the insulation in 1/4 of the home. The belly board is mostly intact and I would like to leave it that way as much as possible and slide in new insulation. The coons ripped a la...

Re: water leak under kitchen sink....
Sounds like poly pipe. I don't know if it's used anymore and it probably shouldn't be inside your house but there are repair fittings and couplers if they are available anymore. I would replace the whole thing with something better.

Re: Roof Replacement/Ceiling Sagging
Most of the 70's mobiles had low pitch roofs that are too flat for metal roof panels. They will leak. There is something called standing seam panels for low pitch roofs but they are expensive and probably too heavy for your trusses. Are you saying that your trusses are bowed because they were made t...

Re: Skirting Venting Ideas?
Yeah, I agree that hardware cloth is way better than chicken wire. I posted about raccoons getting under my place and shredding it. While re building the skirting I had put up chicken wire and the coons had no problem bending it and getting through. Also mice can go right through it and maybe rats t...

Cleaning aluminum siding
My mobile is almost 40 years old but the painted aluminum siding is still in great shape. The paint is still looking good but it is chalking a bit so the green trim has a white haze on it. I would like to clean it to remove the chalking but I don't want to use anything that might remove the paint to...

Re: create a pitch on a flat roof?
I was faced with the same problem last year. My 1973 with a low pitch roof was leaking and I thought I could put a ridge board up and make a higher pitch metal roof. After a lot of research and consulting the answer was no. My existing frame could not handle the extra weight. I was looking at doing ...

Re: insulating the floor and skirting?
I see that some people are insulating their skirting to the point of even spraying foam inside. Won't that cause serious condensation problems? Where I live the building code requires a certain amount of ventilation in the skirting for that reason. I've seen fully enclosed crawl spaces with incredib...

Re: Racoon invasion
Actually, I have a happy ending to the raccoon story. After 6 days they finally got hungry enough to leave and moved into my neighbors shed. She's been feeding them cat food and tuna and they are very happy to stay there. The lesson here is to never ignore a hole in the skirting. This has been a ver...

Racoon invasion
Well, once again I have proven to myself that every repair I do leads to some new problem. I had removed the skirting to re-level and repair the belly and while I had the skirting off a family of raccoons moved into the belly. I was working on some rather large holes in the belly when I heard a nois...

Re: Screws for aluminum siding
Yeah, from my research it looks like aluminum corrodes steel, but stainless corrodes aluminum. I found the aluminum screws at Mobile Home Parts Store but they are expensive and sold in small packages of 40. I need thousands! So it looks like I'm back to zinc plated steel and hoping I'm gone before t...

Re: Need help asking electrician questions
Interesting thread. I was wondering about the copper/ aluminum wire issue. Looking at my breaker box I see that both have been used. It looks like a professional wiring job so probably original. Can breakers accept either type of wire? All the breakers look to be the same type.

Re: Screws for aluminum siding
No salt water here. I'm over 100 miles from the coast so it's pretty much hot and dry so aluminum doesn't corrode. My window and door frames are bare aluminum and they look as good as new. Also someone on this thread said that aluminum skirting in the dirt would corrode but one side of mine has been...

Re: Screws for aluminum siding
Ok, If anyone is interested look up Galvanic Corrosion on Wikipedia and you'll find that any dissimilar metals will have an electrical difference that will cause corrosion especially in a corrosive environment like outside where water can hit it. After reading the article it seems clear to me that z...
