Re: Pipes blew up, pex question
Thanks Greg. Actually, I think it came from the factory this way. It looks like a factory job, and I'm the first to put a knife to the under belly except for one or two holes. That's why I'm thinking, doing the same thing might work again... but not sure. I'll tell you one thing, I'm putting shut of...

Re: Pipes blew up, pex question
Guess I should have mentioned, there is no furnace or duct work, it has electric baseboards (and a wood stove). The skirting that was on it before we moved it was straight vinyl, no insulation. Pretty crappy, too. From what we know, the home was in that location since 2000, there were no shut off va...

Pipes blew up, pex question
Brief back story: I bought a repo'd 25 year old mini home, moved it to my own lot that already had a well & septic (old house burnt down 6 years ago). The well had a black, red & yellow wire going down it (submersible pump), so I assumed a "3 wire" with the ground being ignored (it...

Re: Given a 1972 Regent..
Just want to add my cheery $0.02 for some encouragement, although it doesn't sound like you need it. :D First, I know exactly what Greg is talking about having been there myself a couple of times, but he didn't finish the sentiment in his statement. Yes, you reach points of despair, but there also c...

Re: Complete remodel
From your description, the very first thing I'd want to investigate is why the floor is sagging badly in spots, before spending money on anything else. If the roof isn't the culprit, then you really want to find out what's happened. Could be the proverbial can of worms.

Re: Paint tub
I've done it. There are special kits for painting tubs. Looks fantastic when done... until a couple of years later, when it starts flaking off. Agree with JD, great if you don't plan on using it. For the price of 2 or 3 paint kits, you can buy a whole new tub if you plan to actually use it.

Re: Complete remodel
Just my amateur $0.02; 25 to 30 years doesn't seem that old, that makes it a 1982 to 1987 model. You can have a 30 year old MH in perfect shape if it was sitting far enough off the ground, the skirting was well ventilated, the caulking was kept up and leaks were mitigated asap. Or you could have a 1...

Re: vapor barrier under flooring
I stand corrected, but then again I'm a newbie at this mobile/mini home thing. OSB is probably not the thing to use, what JD has in the link above is a much better idea.

Re: vapor barrier under flooring
Sounds like a good plan to me. Probably done in an attempt to mitigate drafts. I think sometimes people go crazy trying to seal up everything with plastic, spray foam and so on, only to find out later it was a bad idea when everything goes mouldy because they didn't allow things to breathe.

Moving a Mini
I've been on the forum for a while, getting some great info. We were going to build a house of some sort initially, but made the decision to get a mini home instead, and th more I get into this, the more I know it was the right decision. Anyway, it was quite an experience getting our used mini moved...

Re: Metal Skirting idea on installation
I've seen something on here somewhere about attaching the skirting to the bottom 2x4's, and at the top having it in a J channel or similar so that it "floats". Kind of the opposite of what you're suggesting. Your idea seems good as well, though. I had some metal roofing I was using as skir...

Well gear location
So, we just had our used mini home delivered yesterday, and are still getting things set up. I'm not in a park, I'm on my own land in the country and therefore have my own well (already here). The well has a submersible pump. The home was previously also on private land in the country, but the idiot...

Re: Underbelly DIY Cleanup
I have a couple of small tears, and a couple of places on mine where plumbing and wiring were added and the material not patched up. I asked the MH movers what was best and they said Tuck Tape (the red stuff) was the best thing to use. Mine has a sort of canvas like material, black in colour.

Re: Ceiling panels and other parts
Thanks, they are the kind that run the whole width, but seem to be 16" or so wide, stapled up to the trusses with 2" filler strips in between that snap in. There is a MH dealer nearby, I'll ask them maybe, and also about the tie down anchors. I guess the alternative would be to go over wha...
