Re: Leaking siding?
Well, today I had more time and looked into this in more detail. I noticed a vertical screw in the top of the window going to the framing, and I could see that the centre of the window was bowing upward. I backed the screw out and put shims in there to correct it. This allowed me to see between the ...

Re: Leaking siding?
Well, I still can't figure out where this leak is coming from. I am beginning to wonder if it's condensation as I don't have spray foam between the window and wall. How much condensation can form? It can be dry in the house (30-40%) and very humid outside (80-90%). I did find an old satellite mount ...

Re: Leaking siding?
Boy, has it been raining here. I just read today that since October 1 there's only been 3 dry days! Got some pictures during a dry spot between storms. Hmm. I was wondering why so many images had broken links, pretty sure it's the 256kb limit. I shrunk them down to 1280x720 but they were sti...

Re: Leaking siding?
It's been utterly pouring all day yesterday and the rain is still pretty heavy right now. It's supposed to ease up later, hopefully while it's still light outside. Edit: Argh, now they're saying the rain won't break until tomorrow. The weather guys keep pushing it back a day. I wish I could b...

Re: Leaking siding?
Dang, it is still leaking.
I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get pics, it'll be dark when I get back from work.

Re: Leaking siding?
So, I left work early so I could actually see when inspecting. The window is fine and the window installers even put a small bead of caulk on the vertical seams. I was looking at the roofing material (12 years old) and it was a torch-down type. The roofers folded this material over at its edges and ...

Leaking siding?
Background: I had all my windows replaced with vinyl windows back in 2010/2011. When the master bedroom window was taken out there was evidence of a leak, but everything was dry. Chalked this up to an old leak that had been repaired. So, this window has given me nothing but grief. I have had to repa...

Re: Aluminum siding repair
Dang, I like the idea of a big window. I'm going to call up the place that replaced most of my windows a few years ago.
Thanks for the tip! That never would have crossed my mind.
The window in it now is 36Wx30H, it will grow to 36Wx54H, that should let in a lot of light!

Re: Aluminum siding repair
Regarding the window, there's a window installed above where this air conditioner is currently located... I think it might look kind of strange with stacked windows. The aluminum siding is large vertical sheets that look like they interlock. I realize whatever I do it's not going to be pretty....

Re: Aluminum siding repair
I hope you are not planning on matching the siding you have, your odds will be MUCH better on winning the powerball and buying a new home. No, I knew I wouldn't find something to match. I generally don't see that side of the house at all, I was looking at flat sheet aluminum replacement piece. The ...

Aluminum siding repair
Hi all, A previous owner had put in a wall-mounted window air conditioner. So they cut a hole in the wall and "affixed" the A/C. I discovered recently that they didn't install it properly and water has been getting in the wall. I recently had the floor/wall open due to a flood and surprisi...

Re: Properly sizing central A/C
Thanks! I see that they do recommend 1-1.5 for my area for newer models. Mine most certainly isn't insulated near as well as new units. I only have 2x4 walls (2x2 inside walls) so that would most likely require more cooling. I'm pretty sure new units need to have at least 2x6 walls.

Properly sizing central A/C
I was wondering if there's a guide to properly sizing a central A/C system. I have a 14x66 with a 14x12 addition (so around 1100 sq ft.) My A/C furnace supports up to 3 ton capacity as far as I remember. Built in 1980, so 2x4 walls. R14 in the walls, R22-24 in floor/ceiling. I discovered the additio...

Re: Nordyne/Intertherm weak flame - furnace off?
I don't think it was terribly hot, maybe 25-26 C (maybe 76 - 80 F)? I live in a more humid environment though, relative humidity is typically 50% here during the day. I just looked now and the humidity is 61%. I remember having one of the old Intertherm furnaces that had a temp switch and when it go...

Nordyne/Intertherm weak flame - furnace off?
I replaced my furnace back in 2009 with a Nordyne/Intertherm M1M B077A AW. It's A/C ready but I haven't gotten around to getting central air installed yet (although I wish I did - it's 35 C here today!) I have this peculiar problem with the furnace. It's happened twice (once last year, and once just...
