It would take a lot of convincing for me to pay off my mortgage. It is at 2%, and I can get over 3% on a GIC.

As Yanita said, a qualified yes. The area the tiles go in must be rigid and unmoving. It also depends on the aize of the area you are doing. I have put down a 5'x6' area of slate on the floor under my woodstove. I added an extra 5/8" of plywood under it, attached to the floor with screws every ...

There are 2 types of recessed lighting. One is made for contact with insulation the other is not. The first type will have a larger box to keep the insulation away from the hot electrical components and , yes, will result in less insulation in that area of the roof, unless you can get above it in th...

Very nice. I like the colour in the bedroom, kitchen cabs, and the shower. Nice floor colour in the master bath too. The old tub looks kinda out of place though, but easily understood why it is still there.

That's the plan. I can't afford it right now, but seeing as there is no vapour barrier in the house, we would like to take all the drywall down and correct this. At that time we will add baffles and re insulate with Roxul, VB, then hoping pine T&G for the ceiling.

Sounds like someone has something mis labeled. An electrician will be able to trace the circuits by finding which breaker is carrying a load when something at the other end of the line is running. That's the best I can figure.

I have no problem with people getting rich. It is HOW the get rich that I have a problem with. If you got it through hard work and fair play, that is OK. If you got it buy cheating, swindling, lying, stepping on, and taking advantage of other people, go to jail, lose it all!

If you are using the windows with flanges on them, you can probably get away with getting a slightley smaller stock size. Then just add some new framing in the hole the old window came out of to nail through the flange to. The framing can be covered in ice/water sheild on the bottom and sides, going...

I think you have a good handle on the framing of it. As long as the original framing is all intact, it should be OK. What I would do, is cover the exterior of the framing with a piece of plywood, then take Ice/Water shield, attach to the interior vapour barrier, over the bottom sill of the window fr...

The best thing is a ridge vent, with vented soffit.. Yes, you must, according to code, vent the space above the insulation, unless you have a foam insulation sprayed in (like wall tight). "Maybe" the snow came into your vents. If it did, I would suspect the quality of the vents you have. A...

Digital, in our park, it would have happened anyway. You are lucky to live in a "community". We have a landlord that will not do anything and keeps finding ways to charge more for it. Most of the places around here are dumps with people who don't care. Some of them, I think, just sit aroun...

That is sooo true Digital. I remember everyone complaining when the Canadian Liberal Gov't started working on the deficit. Everyone complained. Then when we started to get a handle on it and were running surplus budgets and paying it down, the idiot Conservatives got in and blew it all. Then the mar...

I wish I had my own land...getting a landlord to do anything is ridiculous! I would also go rural. Then, if I had neighbours like I do now, I could put up a big privacy fence. My land, my rules!
