Dave Look in my photo album. You can see that you can take out sections of wall safely. If you can, put in some temporary support inboard from where you are working. Tear everything out up to good wood and replace it. That includes the studs. Take them right out and replace them. It might be a good ...

Greg is right, but doing bit of framing work is worth it in the long run. I have even put in sliding patio doors, so really, anything is doable.

Layout looks very much like ours. We removed the upper cabinets from the peninsula too. Nice job! I like the "beams" on the cathedral ceiling.

That's a great idea Mark! I do turn the blower on manually every now and then if the ends of the house starts getting cold. OH yes, if you don't have your stove installed yet....go straight up with the chimney, no elbows anywhere, much easier for cleaning.
