Re: Best skirting material?
concrete board Jim have you used the concrete board or seen it used. I have been considering it for a home I am doing a reno on and am concerned most about frost heave. Any suggestions as to the best method for installation? Just seen it used and liked the idea. Dig a trench around perimeter about ...

Re: wood stoves
Most stoves will be advertised on how many square feet they are efficient for. Go by that.

Re: Gas Water Heater Question
+1 on what greg said. It may be a valve that vibrates when the water expands and contracts, or a hard water build up. Does it only happen when water is running?

Re: Source for interior door trim
That reminds me Yanita. I bought a 1x6x10' common pine board. I made 2 outside corner and 2 inside corner trim pieces with it and had wood left over. The board cost $7, the trim pieces I made, retail for about $10 or more each for an 8 foot length. Since I have a thickness planer, I have been thinki...

Re: structural integrity??
Your load bearing walls are the long sides of the home. Interior partions are not load bearing in a single wide. That being said, I do believe that interior walls contribute to the rigidity and help stop the home from "racking" (leaning). You may be better to add insulation to the outside ...

I faced my jams with pine. I ripped them to width and then used pine again for the trim around the doors. Finished with tung oil.

Re: structural integrity??
1x4's will not significally support anything. What is in your walls now for structure? Without perimeter blocking, your floor joists are important too, as the load has to be carried by them to the metal frame.

Re: Source for interior door trim
Personally, I just go to the lumber store and buy 1x common pine and use that. The table saw and router takes care of anything else.

MODS, where is the albums
OK, so I am having an "old guy" moment and can't track it down on the new layout. Pretty spiffy looking though, good job.

Re: Metal roofing system
Hey Jim, Grace Ice & Water is installed directly to the decking, not over the felt. If you use Grace, the felt is not necessary. That is correct, forgive my syntax. I meant I prefer it over the felt (as in instead of) not over top of the felt. There are pics in my photo album of my roof being d...

Re: Metal roofing system
If you are going as far as you are saying, I would recommend the Grace Ice/Water shield over the felt. It will actually seal around any fasteners through it, ensuring a watertight roof. I don't think I would add the foam though.

Re: oil base or latex primer??
The thing about Kilz and Zinser primer is that they are alcohol based (like shellac) and will seal the surface from anything coming through. If you have stains on the wall or ceiling, a coat of shellac over top of them will stop the stain from coming through whatever you put over the shellac.

Re: oil base or latex primer??
I think (and I may be wrong) that Zinnser Bulls eye primer is equivalent to kilz primer.
