Re: Countertops
Hi Arlo, The quote had us taking the counters out-and them making/installing the new ones. We have done some other things-so need to do this budget consciously with a good end result in mind. Do not have to hurry. Did go to the thread you provided on painting them and that might be an option to try-...

Re: Countertops
Thanks for the response. When I checked at Home Depot on the cost of laminate counters, it was over $1500.00. (about 44 sq ft with island) Guess I didn't ask the right questions and will have to take another look!

Countertops
Hello, We have been doing some remodeling and counter tops are next. I thought I got this website from here originally, but I can't find it when I search the forum. At any rate, just want some opinions. http://www.modernmasterstransformations.com/ This is an item sold at Lowe's that seems to make a ...

Subfloors
Hello, We are getting ready to rip up the carpet in the living area in order to put down laminate. We have the 3/4" Cresex(sp) subfloor. Is there anything that should be done with this type floor before putting down the padding and laminate? We currently do not have any problems with the floor-...

RE: ceiling repair/ swamp cooler
Hello, We have a swamp cooler as we live in a low humidity area also. Just crack-about 2 "-not completely open-two windows in your home-best at opposite ends of the house. We have found this allows for the best operation. If you have too many windows open or have windows open too wide-it won't ...

RE: Frozen water lines....my fix
Hello, I have worried about frozen lines when the temp goes way below 0 here. I do leave some faucets dripping but I place a big bucket (sink) or trash can (shower) under the drip. It takes a long time to fill up. This way I think I have at least tried to prevent any problems. Just a suggestion. Annie

RE: What should I do with this mess?
Since it is peeling off you may as well help it along and start over Perhaps you can try using drywall mud and a roller and mud the wall first. If you don't want a heavy texture you can water it down a bit. If you do want a heavy texture you may want to use a trowel. Maybe you can try just a small s...

RE: WINDOW FILM ... PROS or CONS
If you are trying to cut out some of the heat from the sun's rays, you may could try using solar screen. Easy to change out if you don't like it. There are different % of sun blocking capacity-you can try Home Depot or Lowes. Just a suggestion.

RE: Aerating Lawn
Thank you for your responses. Darn! Thought those shoes sounded great. I did read the article that you linked and noted it stated that aerating is only good for a few weeks. Fertilizer seems to have helped over the years except for a few areas. The yard just has some bare spots and some thin areas. ...

Aerating Lawn
I have not aerated the lawn before and wonder if any one can give me some tips.
Is there a way to do this without renting bulky machinery? Something simple that a 13 year old could do?
The yard needs some ife put into it and fertilizer can't do it all:)
Thanks for any ideas,
Annie

Hi,
You might try freecycle.org. You can check and see if there is a group near you and post what you are looking for. Worth a try!

RE: freezing & water pipes
Hello,
Here is what I did when temps dropped to 9 below 0.
I put a large plastic container in the shower and let the water drip into the container. This gave me peace of mind and no worry about the sewer pipes. It did not fill all the way during the night-Just a thought to get you by!

Shutting off water
Hello, We will be gone for Christmas holidays and living in Colorado, think it is best to shut the water off while the home is empty. However, people have told me when they have shut the water off that leaks appear when they turn it back on. Why would that be? Question-I can easily shut the water of...
