Smoke alarms-marriage wall?
I'm going to add a couple of smoke alarms to our doublewide. Can they be put on the marriage wall or is that not a good place? The directions say not to put them on the outside wall of a mobile home, but of course nothing about a doublewide marriage wall. Any ideas on what anybody else has done or o...

Do I have a problem?
Since I can't post a picture I will try to describe the best I can. Have a 1990 doublewide. There is a wall that runs from the marriage wall to the exterior wall. This separates the laundry room and a bedroom. There is a 5- 1/2 foot long wall running from that wall and connecting to the wall separat...

Re: Fire trap
Greg, thanks for the encouragement. Our doublewide was built in 1990. Other than being in 2 halves, I don't understand it being any different than a stick built house and burning faster. (but what do I know?). We do have smoke detectors in all bedrooms, etc.

Fire trap
Anyone have any good response when people say "oh, you live in a doublewide. Those things are a fire trap." I sometimes really get frustrated at the attitudes people have. Although I have always heard mobile homes burn faster than stick built houses. Whether it's true or not I don't know. ...

I beam question
This is a question that someone asked me at work today, and I did not know the answer. I know it's electrical in nature, but hopefully you guys can answer it. Are the I beams on a doublewide grounded, and if so, how? This person is buying one and had questions about the setup. This is something I ne...

Photo album ?
I've been trying to click on "photo album" on the home page and can't go anywhere. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I wanted to look at what others have done with their homes. Thanks.

Re: underbelly insulation ?
JD--no apologies necessary. I do want to say 2 things. First, every time I have asked a question on this forum, I have had quick and helpful responses, and I want to say I really do appreciate it. (And don't be surprised if I have more questions-I'm still learning). Second, I personally did not have...

underbelly insulation ?
We've got to replace some insulation in the underbelly. I've already gotten the underbelly material from Mark's website. My question: do I need insulation with paper backing or can I use insulation without? We live in Tennessee where the winters are not usually that cold, if that makes a difference....

Re: ? about moisture barrier-thanks
I appreciate everyone's help. I was a little scatterbrained the other day, between the Orkin guy, and then a conversation I had with a "friend" in which I said that our son within the next 5 years would buy our house and DH and I would downsize to a singlewide. The response of "I can'...

Re: ? about moisture barrier
Thanks for the reply. It does help. As far as we know, it stays dry under the house. Anyone that has gone under has commented on how dry it is compared to some places they have been. Considering we have been in this house for 20 years, is rust on the I-beams a normal thing? The Orkin dude almost see...

? about moisture barrier
We own a 1990 manufactured home (16 x 80) on 5 acres, are the original owners, in Tennessee, north of Nashville. Had a guy from Orkin come out to do termite inspection (their free one). No termites, but he said we needed to put down a moisture barrier under the home, which they would do for $600. He...

new doublewides
My son and his fiancee wanted to look at doublewides yesterday--they're thinking of putting one on the back of our 5 acres. All I can say is WOW. I cannot believe how much they have changed since we bought ours 19 years ago. And how much they have gone up in price. There was even one for $115,000. W...

round shower--Harry
I saw the picture you posted of the round shower you installed when I was looking for advice on installing a new shower. I love the look of the one you put in and was wondering if you've been happy with it. We hope to get a new one installed this weekend. Thanks.
