Re: How to Remove Tub, Spout without Access Panel?
I ran into the same thing when the cheap plastic faucet gave out. Due to the configuration, I wasn't able to use a 'regular' shower faucet. Lowes did carry the standard cheap 'mobile home' faucet. Being it was pretty much the same thing...I decided to plan on it failing sooner than later. I cut a sq...

Re: Installing New Fiberglass Shower Base
As far as order goes..... I would think the backer board goes on the studs behind the pan so that what ever the surface material then sets inside the lip of the pan.xxfesterxx wrote:Ok great so remove wood paneling, check plumbing behind wall, install shower base and them put in the hardiebacker?

Re: Installing New Fiberglass Shower Base
I can't say for certain - but in my experience... water and wood just don't go together. I would definitely get rid of the paneling. And - while the wall is opened up - check the shower plumbing. I had to tear out an entire wall due to the idiots who built the place only using 1 screw to hold that u...

Re: Mudding over Textured Wood Paneling
I shot my living room with mud over the existing panels. The previous owner had removed the strip between the panels and had T&B the seams. Of course, it has cracked out at some of the seams. If I were to do it again... I would leave the strips in place, shoot the wall with mud, lightly knock it...

Re: Got a Bid, too much? Flood Damage, Replace Entire Subflo
His bid for labor shouldn't change. If he balks - then he has got some 'splainin to do. Unfortunately, too many get their eye set on collecting every single penny of the insurance money. If they don't, they see it as leaving free money on the table. There is no free money. Like I said, I'm not oppos...

Re: Got a Bid, too much? Flood Damage, Replace Entire Subflo
When my roof needed to be done - the bids were all super inflated on the materials. Being the insurance company sent me the check - I had the contractors just bid labor. I then went down to HD and bought the materials myself. They didn't like it - but I wasn't about to pay them a 250% premium just f...

Killer dog will work for treat
A couple days back -"something" - got up under the house...and of course it munched its way into the belly. I would hear it banging around down there - sounded like a wild boar pig! But! My fearless and super vigilant 4-legged friend caught the enemy - a small possum - out running some lat...

That's where I got to as well.

Re: Noit really a repair issue but a rules issue
If I knew then what I know now - I would NEVER have bought my place. I have spent thousands of dollars fixing the original owners messes, and repairing the problems they caused. Ultimately, it is your money and your time - and headache. Note: Somewhere in the property records, that tank had to be 'c...

Re: Noit really a repair issue but a rules issue
Assuming this is an older septic tank- If you cover it with a slab - and build on top of it - how do you plan to have access to it when it needs to be serviced? The tanks can go a number of years sometimes - but sooner or later, they fill up with--well, you know. Sooner or later, it will have to emp...

Re: PLYWOOD UNDERBELLY
yakima - I couldn't find anything for SIMS panel construction - but I did find SIPS panels. So i am hoping they are the same thing. And thank you for your experience and insight on this. My interest in replacing the plastic belly material has more to do with a better physical barrier than the insula...

Re: PLYWOOD UNDERBELLY
But here's the part i just don't get. Back when the belly was intact - I got a water link at en elbow leading up to the kitchen sink. of course, I didn't know I had a leak until I started getting that funky-moldy-stale smell up in the house. I went under, and that belly material was a big ol' pool l...

Re: PLYWOOD UNDERBELLY
I'm going to take a guess that when he had it re-insulated, the insulation was stapled to the bottoms of the floor joists, then the plywood installed - possibly nailed or screwed to the same. The furring strips are there probably just to seal up the seams between sheets of plywood. I would think it ...
