Re: Electrical Wiring
Stan - Electrical wiring is electrical wiring. Most contractors will at least try to meet code when doing repairs/remodels. Based on what i have seen under my place, the mobile home industry did their due diligence in getting NEMA concessions for the way our homes are wired. The clip on connectors a...

Re: Question about metal siding.
My biggest problem and fear (or at least I have made it out to be in my head!) is that it 'appears' everything has moved downhill about 1.5". I am basing that on the closeness of the house to the decking that runs the full length of the house. I believe this was caused by horribly large amounts...

Re: Question about metal siding.
I'd almost kill to get my place leveled for $350. Last time I called around, $1700 - and that included nothing but the re-level. Any re-blocking, shims, etc was extra.

Re: New Kinro brand windows??
I replaced all of mine via Home Depot. All of the windows were special ordered at no additional cost. Each one (30 x 58) was about $100. Dble pane, e-glass. Bottoms swing out for cleaning. Tops are stationary. White vinyl. Had them about 6 years now - none have had any leaks or foggy glass.

Re: Pex pinhole???
I cut the pipe about 1/4" right above and below the pinhole....slipped on a coupler and glued it all back together. It's drying now. The fix was easy - but I'll bet there is a pretty swampy mess in the belly. And its dipping down to freezing at night - so I'm not really wanting to slice open th...

Pex pinhole???
I was greeted early one morning with a cool wet feeling on my bare feet around my toilet. Felt around for any leaks....so surmised the problem was the wax ring had failed. Replaced the wax ring...and in doing so found the actual source of the water: a tiny, tiny, tiny pinhole in the wall of the pex ...

Re: Redoing underbelly on 1973 DW
I've been trying to come up with some type of "system" that would allow me to replace the belly fabric with something a little more resistant to critters. My observations concluded that pretty much nothing hangs below the bottom of the I-beams....which makes them a good target for a suppor...

Re: Skylight leaking
Check the skylight from the outside for cracks in the plastic. The plastic gets brittle after years in the sun. Mine had a small 'chunk' (about half the size of a pencil) knocked out of it right near a top corner and right at the shingle line. FWIW - when I had my place re-roofed - that skylight wen...

Re: Suction on blower access door
To answer your question: YES. Too much resistance can and will burn out the motor. The only variable you can adjust is the filter itself. DO NOT leave the door open! Try using a lower rated filter to reduce the load. Too much filtration is as bad as too little. One way you burn out the motor prematu...

Re: dryer vent
My venting used to go from the dryer to an external wall thru the 'channel' created by the floor joists. That said, the rocket scientist who set this place but the AC compressor right in front of the dryer vent exhaust. So, I had to choose to either re-route the vent or move the compressor. Of cours...

Re: Intake vs filter size
I decided to dig in to this to get my own answers. And, for the most part, what I found simply stirs my hackles. To start - my unit is 22"w x 24"d. The filter housing is for a 20x25 filter - but the housing is 22'w x 25"d. I dug through the specs on my blower unit to find its CFM capa...

Re: sealing ducts from the inside
A google search turned up a couple items. The one most interesting was from an ex-employee. He says folks were calling up a year later saying the aeroseal hadn't saved them a dime. Of course, he goes on to berate the local company in Phoenix. Scroll clear to the bottom... https://www.ripoffreport.co...

Intake vs filter size
After 5 short years, my blower motor died on my Goodman unit (ADPF304216). While the repair guy was here he made a comment that every downflow unit has repeated blower motor failures. (The installation and subsequent repair were done by separate companies.) If I use a higher grade and pleated filter...

DIY antenna
Came across this article for a DIY antenna. I have a Antenna's Direct C4 - and some days I can watch TV...and some days I can't. So, this pup is on my to-do list.....
