Re: Abandoning the belly
That does make sense...but... Being I live out in the sticks where a cale/line connection is not available, i use a USB modem to connect via cell towers. from the years I have had the service - it is anything but 'reliable'. I can count on one hand the number of times I haven't been dropped on any g...

Re: Abandoning the belly
I can probably scrape up enough from closets to cover the ones in carpeted areas, but the ones in linoleum - are gonna be dirt & grime pits with just a plywood insert. So i thought if I could find a solid cover, i'd just put those in for the time being. I'm a ways away from replacing all the flo...

Abandoning the belly
Due to the world changing while I was snoozing....the critters made their way right through that plastic skirting stuff - and have devoured the ducting under the house. I've had 4 or 5 contractors come out and give bids on replacing all of it with metal....and then....during some casual conversation...

In the process of getting quotes for a re-level....and all three contractors have recommended doing a retrofit tht is now required for FHA financing (sell, purchase, or refi). As i understand it, there is a minimum of two large poured cement blocks (2' x 2' x 2') at diagonally opposing corners, with...

Re: I need input on best way to hang new copper or pex pipes from underside mobilehome without opening up belly board
I had the need to create a 'hangar' for my A/C lines that run below belly. I measured a 2x4 to fit exactly between the flanged edges of the I-beams. Then on each side of te 2x4, I added a strip of 1/8 x 1" flat bar that was cut about 6" longer than the 2x4 (about 3" on each end). Dril...

Re: Questionable Electrical Wiring
I had to replace all of the 220v runs in my place. In doing so, I had to remove the face-plate at the breaker box. ALL of the 110's went up from the box, while ALL of the 220's went down under. That said, I have seen many a run of standard 14gge romex tacked to the inside of the perimeter joists dow...

Re: Underbelly Patching Questions
I have tried so many different chemicals to drive them out....and all have failed. I even put 24 foggers under all at the same time...and nothing. These are some incredibly adaptable animals - so very much like the evil space monsters that we just can't kill off! lol! The areas they will probably ne...

Re: Underbelly Patching Questions
Another aspect to consider: if the critters got in - they have most likely left feces and/or urine in the ducting and belly insulation. Once the urine dries, it can become airborne and blown through the ducts out into the house. As for the feces...it's icky - and can be loaded with illness/disease c...

Re: Electrical outlets that are linked to a light switch
The answer to your question is that yes the switch can be taken out of the circuit. All kinds orf stuff "can be done" - but that doesn't mean it is right, legal, or advisable. B.U.T! If you do not understand the circuitry or the wiring - then you really need to NOT do this yourself. The re...

Re: Popped relief valve on water heater
I reset both thermostats down a bit as i had turned them up when I first installed the new unit. Put it all back together and so far all is ok. One thing I did notice was when resetting the thermostats, the bottom unit made a 'clunk' sound when i turned it all the way down - then i turned it back up...

Popped relief valve on water heater
So, I'm sitting in my office - watching the Dow take a swan dive - and all of a sudden I hear some bumping and then some spewing and then water running. I figured a water line had somehow broken...so i rushed out and shut off the water main. I pulled back the skirting where the main line goes up int...

Re: Replacing wall
It's hard to tell from the pic - but a there is a technique called "crow's foot" that uses a very large pair of nylon brushes to create a non-repeating textured finish. Each brush has nylon fibers that are 6-8 inches long - and these are spread out from a central point on the brush handle....

Re: Terminology & Function
David, I purchased a new Goodman system in 2008 (exchange unit and compressor). The system has had only one fail (blower motor) in 9 years. However, since it's installation, the delivery of heated air to the two halves of this doublewide has been out of whack. One side is luke warm while the other i...
