RE: master bath flooring
I would agree with Demolition on this one. A good underlayment followed with a sheet vinyl that looks like ceramic tile is the way to go. No grout lines to worry about cracking, no cracked tiles if you drop something, less expensive installation, no chances of destroying it if the home ever has to b...

RE: Need advice on a used MH purchase
Personally I am not a big fan of buying repos of anything. There is usually only two reasons why someone lets something get repoed. Either something major went wrong with it and they couldn't afford to get it fixed or they couldn't afford it anymore. Either way once they know that it is likely going...

RE: Water heater woes
The water heater pictured has an atmospheric vent that sits an inch or two above the heater and it generally draws in fresh air from under the heater. This type of heater is only allowed to be installed in mobile homes where the heater is not in the living space of the home, ie. a home where the wat...

RE: Speaking Of Windows-Plexiglass?
Plexi glass can still crack and break especially in the cold winter weather. It will become brittle like vinyl or plastics. It will also scratch fairly easily during cleanings. If it were me I would replace with glass.

RE: odd siae water heater door
First, it is not reccommended to paint pressure treated wood until it has aged at least a year. This allows the chemicals in the wood time to dry and leach out. Second, if you have a gas water heater I would stay away from fiberglass insulation. The loose weave of the insulation could become a fire ...

RE: wall plug wires running to light fixture
The light switch is connected with one romex wire. ( black and white). The black brings the power to the switch but the white takes it back to the fixture. Basically you need the 3 black wires from the outlets and the switch connected. The white wire from the switch connects to the black wire of the...

RE: Insulating and Vapor barrier
The vapor barrier won't help much, winter is usually a pretty dry season. The insulation though, may help. Having had to replace water lines and heat tape in freezing weather I know from experience that just getting out of the wind under and behind a well sealed skirting makes a big difference. Addi...

RE: Electrical outlet and switch questions
Hi Annie, My name is Archie and I am currently doing the same exact thing you are inquiring about, although somewhat slowly since I broke my left wrist. If you keep an eye on this post for the next few days I will take pictures of the electric boxes, switches, plates, and the tools I am using to mak...

RE: Granite countertops
I would think that the cabinet construction would be the biggest issue. Whether or not the cabinets could support the weight. Most mobile home cabinets I have come across would most likely not be suitable for the granite counter top. As far as the floor goes. I would think that as long as the cabine...

RE: Thermastat temperture
To many variables to give an exact number. Things like the shape of the skirting and belly material. Have the water lines been replaced and if so are they routed properly. What material are the water lines made of. Is the home subject to much wind or is it blocked by other items. Trial and error may...

RE: HEAT TAPE
This my own personal opinion but I am not a big fan of the heat tapes the home stores sell. I have first hand experience changing the ones Menards sells because the thermostat would not turn the heat tape on. Sure it would work fine when you tested it but sure enough, when it got cold out, pipes fro...

RE: HEAT TAPE
Not to scare you but yes there could be a serious problem if done wrong. You need to make sure that you follow the manufacturers directions that comes with the heat tape. If you are getting it by the foot at a mobile home parts store than please ask them for installation tips. The reason I stress th...

RE: Replaceing Water lines
I agree with Greg. Go with 3/4 supply lines and 1/2 inch to fixtures. This should require you to only have to buy one set of crimpers that will do both 1/2 and 3/4. The 3/8 inch line will usually require another set just for itself. That being said I would not use any type of compression fitting. I ...

RE: What kind of tub?
No matter what tub you decide to go with it will only be as good as its foundation. Since you are going through so much work anyway now would be a perfect time to replace the floor decking with treated plywood or better yet a cement board. It would also be a good time to inspect pipes, insulation, a...
