RE: Roof Question

Rather than installing metal over the shingles it wouldn't be that much harder to just remove the old stuff first, a couple of square end shovels will pop it right up. You will have an added cost of replacing the felt paper but you will also have the ability to inspect the plywood for any damage.

RE: Installing a whole house main water shut-off ???

They may have ran the water line through the belly in order to keep the heat tape short. It still should enter the home near the water heater though and split off from there. I would check the water heater closet for the incoming line and install a shut off there.

RE: Heat tape?

I also have the steel braided heat tape, good stuff and lasts for years. Just be careful to follow the instructions when installing. Some heat tapes run along the pipe some wrap around it every so many inches. Some you can overlap some you can't. The biggest thing though is insulation, some heat tap...

RE: carport addition

I might check the local building codes first to see what they may have to say.

RE: Hot water heater question

You should drain the heater only enough to remove the sediment that builds up in it a couple times a year. Usually when you start the draining process the water will be a dirty brown color and clear up as the sediment is flushed. You should also check your safety valve on the water heater to ensure ...

RE: Cross over Duct?

So; is this the old looks like a duct, acts like a duct question  I would venture to geuss that yes it is one of your crossover ducts. The end of it may look like it is taped to the ground but upon closer inspection you will most likely see that it is not. It is probably the tape that was suppo...

Thanks,

Actually my back was and is good to go. My arms however are a different story. Worst part of course was digging the post holes.

RE: Leveling a particle board kitchen floor

Agreed, I would replace with plywood. Believe it or not though if you were planning on cutting out a section of the old floor removing the rest won't be much harder, more cost sure, but at least you won't run the risk of the particle board getting soft on you and ruining all your hard work. I would ...

New landscape pics in the exterior album

Hi all, I just wanted you all to check out the new pics I posted in the exterior pics album. Lots of work done for both my parents and their elderly neighbors. http://mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/album_cat.php?cat_id=4 All in all it was in the neighborhood of 7 tons of rock, 2 tons of mulch, 500 paver...

RE: cleaning carpet

Of course this is just my opinion and based on no sientific data, but personally I don't think any of the carpet shampooer's that are store bought do a very good job. Since I only clean my carpets once a year I go to the store and rent a Rug Doctor. I think it cleans better, drys the floor better, a...

RE: Replacing water lines

Don't forget that if you live in a climate that sees freezing temps to keep the water lines close the the heat ducts. This helps to keep water lines from freezing in winter.

RE: New Mobile Suggestions

I am not to sure exactly what may be an option or not, never been lucky enough to get a new one yet. Some things you might consider though. 1. Getting the light fixture boxes that can hold ceiling fans in the rooms you may want one later; such as bedrooms, dining room, living room, etc. 2. Getting a...

RE: polybutylene

Just my opinion but I would replace it. Since you are going to go through all the work and costs of replacing the floor, going the extra step to do the water lines seems logical with the access the floor removal will give you. Pex is a fairly straight forward and easy install if planned out and the ...

RE: Best way to balance a ceiling fan so it doesn't wobble

Some ceiling fan manufacturers suggest switching the blades around to find the best balance.

Find the blade that seems to be the most out of balance and swap it with one on the opposite side of the fan. It takes some time but costs nothing.

RE: Garbage disposale

Most likely the new disposal will not come with a plug. You will either need to use the one from the old unit or make/buy a new one. Same goes for dishwashers and dryers.
