Re: Sometimes...it stinks

Do you have any sinks or toilets that haven't been used in a while? If the water in the trap evaporates you can get some odor coming back up.

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

If you like it, then choose it. *I* think it's ugly, but if you saw some of my choices, you'd say the same, I'm sure Ha ha. I spent a good deal of time as an interior design major in college, so I am certainly familiar with the love/hate or beautiful/ugly etc. way of feeling about the same design. ...

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

I guess it all depends on what you have been exposed to in what it makes you think of. It's becoming a pretty popular design choice in my area. I'm still thinking of painting it white, but we went out this weekend to an establishment that had just been redone and they had use the same metal and left...

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

You either have to use a special (i.e. expensive) primer or use vinegar to acid etch the finish before painting.

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

Due to the height of my ceilings, and not really being a showy person, I thinking painting it white would be best.

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

Hopefully I can get by with zero boards or just the one where the two long pieces will meet. The sheets are designed to overlap, so there shouldn't be a need for a trim piece in that direction. Much of the other part of the house has 1x4's with routered edges that are where the strips are. The kitch...

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

The problem with the grid is just cost. Every single cent counts right now. This can just be screwed directly to the ceiling we have now and it will only lower the height by 1/2 inch. I can't post the photo directly, but if you click on the link, you will see it done with single decorative board whe...

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

This would be an example of why I might want a board where the two sheets meet - if we get off at all and the sheets do not match up perfectly like in this photo. Or at least it appears to me that they are slightly off. We have actually worked with the thicker stuff lots building lots of animal shed...

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

The stuff we would use is very thin. Sheets are available in a few lengths. They are 26" across for the overlap (so would cover 24"). Locally we can get them at 10', 12', 14' and 16'. If possible, we'd probably go with the 16' length to have as few of seams as possible - the main room is j...

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

Price was good in comparison to the other options we have looked at. $0.70 per square foot for the metal panels. Only other cost would be the screws and if we decide to add any trim.

Corrugated metal ceiling

Anyone ever do a corrugated metal panel ceiling? We have some repairs to do to our ceiling and most of the area, they are purely aesthetic, but it joins areas that need repair. Our contractor suggested a suspended ceiling, so we have looked into ceilinglink as opposed to the stuff at HD/Lowes, etc.,...

Re: Hanging sheetrock

Thanks. Since we are only doing a small area, I think we will try hanging it vertically.

Hanging sheetrock

Does sheetrock/drywall have to be hung horizontally or can it be done vertically. Everything we removed was done vertically, and with ceilings that are 90 inches tall, we thought it might be easier to do vertically.

Any opinions?

Re: New member, partial reno, on a Major Budget!

The home was releveled a few years back - maybe 3, so I think we are good there. There isn't an easy place to drop the ceiling - it's all pretty connected. So that, plus cost, make redoing it something I want to avoid if possible. I'm wondering if we are going to be able to put the sheet vinyl direc...

New member, partial reno, on a Major Budget!

Hi, new member here. We have started a small reno on the house I grew up in. The original part is a mobile home (probably around a '78), and then it has two additions that are slab/stick-built. Our goals: remove all carpeting/vinyl, repair any wet/weak spots in the floor, have sheet vinyl installed ...
