Thanks for the help JD. That's great information. I'll make sure I check it out!
I just spoke with the code enforcement officer for the town and he told me there are no restrictions on using a metal roof so I'm free to use whatever design I want.

RE: New Roof Time
Thanks JD! Yes, the previous owner had a lot of work done to give it that cabin look, but from what I'm seeing and all of the problems I've been having most of the work was sub-par. That is alot of weight on the walls and siding but they appear to be in good shape. The current roofing has no ice shi...

RE: New Roof Time
Thanks for the responses. I will take a measurement and determine the slope. I'm hoping it's at least 3/12. I'd rather go with metal if I could. I will definitely put in a ridge vent as well. When I did the new ceilings and insulation, I also added the foam baffles over the walls, so I should be OK ...

RE: What's this?
Thanks for the ideas! There is a doorbell located in another part of the house so I don't think it's that. Some sort of wall sconce sounds reasonable Yanita. I'm going to try and get an electrician friend to trace those wires. You're right Gerald, that detector would be better on the ceiling. I'll h...

What's this?
I hope somebody can help with this 1! On my living room wall located above the thermostat and smoke detector is some sort of black plate. It kind of looks like a mounting plate of some sort. There are electrical wires capped off inside it and they are live. I just can't figure out what it is and it'...

New Roof Time
Well, it's time for the next project! I had some serious ice dam and water damage throughout my house over the winter. I replaced all of the ceilings with 1/2" drywall and new insulation. I would of replaced the roof first but mother nature wouldn't allow it so instead of waiting I decided to d...

RE: Double Hung Windows
Thanks for the responses JD and Greg! I'm not too concerned about the trimming aspect of the windows because the inside of the home is tongue and groove knotty pine with 1x3 trim. The outside is a bit unusual. The previous owner had 6" half logs installed over the T-11 around the entire home, w...

Double Hung Windows
Hello Everybody! Just found this site and had to join in! Lots of good information. I recently purchased a 1988 double wide. The exterior aluminum windows and the interior storms need to be replaced. I'd like to replace them with vinyl double hung. It looks like I can remove the exterior trim to acc...
