If the area is not too large you could put a piece of decorative wood to hide the holes.

When I patched in small areas using plywood, I found that odds and ends of vinyl flooring, on top of the plywood work good for filling in the step let by plywood to particle board mismatch.

I can tell you what happens if it does not hold! Yes, I had a questionable repair that held for a couple of days and then it just blew off. The water ran for about 2 hr's before I caught it. What a mess! My advise....If it is questionable....get it fixed correctly! If properly crimped, I don't think...

How warm should it feal...100 degree??? Like a hot tub or just barely warm? I felt it when the outside temp. was 55'ish and
could not say for sure it was on.
