Re: rock chip repair
I use the Safelite/Novus/Fasbreak type repair places pretty regularly since I am on gravel/poor condition roads alot and seem to get chips regularly. They generally run about $35 for a repair without claiming it on insurance, and generally will refund your money if it doesn't fix it for whatever rea...

Re: Furnace Question
What is happening is that there is enough heat building up to trip the fan switch in the furnace, therefore turning on the blower. The switch is temperature activated, but it doesn't know if the heat is coming from the furnace burner or an outside source. There should be an on/off switch on the fron...

We have our auto insurance through Geico, and they have a partnership of some kind with American Bankers Insurance for MH insurance. There is a link on Geico's website for Homeowners, then I think you can choose Manufactured Home, and it gives you a number. They have been reasonably priced, and easy...

Lets try these pictures and see if it works. First, this is how the cabinets started, except in the kitchen the doors were painted light blue. I will look for some of the photos the Realtor had when we bought the house that show the kitchen, I just don't know where I saved them. http://i693.photobuc...

You can also tile straight over the existing laminate as long as it is still well adhered to the base material. You need to use a special adhesive, though, not just regular thinset mortar. I used Henry 314 Ceramic Tile Adhesive on mine, and it has held up for several years now, even on the tub surro...

That is pretty standard construction for newer MH countertops, almost everything is non-standard sizes so they build them to fit and do it the cheapest way possible (ie: pieced together, not pre-formed). It does make replacing them in the future fun though without some custom construction. As for th...

When I bought my home, the cabinets were a kind of white washed (or pickled) oak look that was, at least in my opinion, ugly. Especially in the kitchen, where the previous owners had painted the cabinet doors light blue. To top it all, the counter tops were a horrible purple mottled laminate, so not...

If you just remove the battens and fill in the joints with joint compound, they WILL crack. If you tape them like you would regular drywall, they will have a much better chance of not cracking, but still might over time. Alot of it will depend on what kind of foundation your home is on and how much ...

RE: Newbie - Siding Question
I would be concerned with the additional weight as well. Depending on what type of foundation you have, you may be able to do some perimeter blocking to help support it. Another alternative may be something like this: http://www.vinyllogsiding.com/index.html I don't really know anything about the pr...

RE: pet damaged counter top, retile?
I just went straight over the laminate with ceramic tile in mine as well. I used Henry 314 Ceramic Tile Adhesive which was recommended by a contractor buddy of mine since he said it sticks to anything. It has held up for a couple years now with no issues, even around the tub deck, which I used as a ...
