river under home
Yes, a river...well, creek at least. Well, maybe not a creek- but flowing water for sure. I have a concrete slab next to the cinderblock foundation. The slab is a rectangle and the length is adjacent to the home. Over the years the slab has become unlevel, slanting towards the cinderblock foundation...

"It's just a trailer" mentality
I'm here to vent- but any kind words of encouragement or advice would be appreciated. I live in the hicks of NC in the Piedmont/Triad area. Alot of farms, but that is dying out as cotton is GONE, tobacco is GONE, and the farms are pretty much fading away. As the older generations die off the up and ...

Re: Walk in Shower
MobileMike, was planning to do the same thing. I'm moving a wall in the bedroom (was a closet with the shower/tub on the other side) so as to give me a few more feet in the bathroom. Come back and give us updates from time to time. I plan on using the cement board with waterproofing membrane. I want...

Re: Metal siding and bugs
Good question! I never thought it was a problem. I have a 1967 home and it wasn't until I started renovations-removing the paneling to re-insulate that I SAW the problem... wasp nests like crazy!!!! but at least it was dead of winter and they were DEAD all manner of critter skeletons...tiny things N...

Re: Reroof
I'm not Mark- but I've completed the task you are inquiring about. I have the 'dome' roof...curved with the peak of the curve in the center. I used the corrugated metal roof panels from Lowes. They come in 12"x 144" panels...2 feet is the coverage area, they are wider but you must subtract...

Re: Find the problems - win a mug #3
I'm not eligible to win but since it's been a few days since anyone has tried- I'd like to comment. This site teaches me so much and I love these 'find the problems' as I learn from them. But if this is a main water line- and not a drain- water doesn't go uphill, or shouldn't so the regulator should...

Bamboo? Will it be that invasive as to ruin the foundation?
I have a major water problem- but it's not affecting the home a bit. My home sits close to the roadway and the roadway is the 'top' of the hill. So my home -the front, sits almost ground level with the back up higher (the ground slopes) And back of the home the hill just continues to go down about 2...

Re: Homeowner's insurance?
Thru Geico-assurant, they say if older than 29 years: documentation required for: roof replacement all electrical wiring replaced heating system water heater replaced and some other things. Roof easy- just did it. But I don't have a heating system and my wiring has not been replaced. So yet another ...

Homeowner's insurance?
Made a few inquiries when I got the deed to my property about 2 years ago...for insurance. I went through my local places, a few online...and another national company... was told the same by all....that my home had no value and wasn't insurable. There is no 'title' to the home as where I live, it's ...

Re: Remodel 1970 mobile home good idea?
DCDiva- good post! I don't have insurance....couldn't find any. Tried several places in town, several 'national' places, then a few online...nothing. Saying the building/structure wasn't insurable due to age and no value. But unlike most who would just put $5,000 or so I've already spent over $17,00...

Re: Remodel 1970 mobile home good idea?
Although you've made your decision to fix er up, I'd like to add a condensed version of my story for those who may stumble across your thread. I have a 1967 single wide w/ almost 4 acres. I could have ditched this trailer as it was horrible looking...I mean-your worst nightmare! Holes in the floor f...

Re: Find the problems - win a mug #2
Very good- the home isn't even lifted....just sitting on the ground. When I looked at mine, I have way more bricks, not just two. Can two even 'support' a home? I guess everyone is in agreement about the 1- either pads, concrete foundation- something under blocks 2-the top/lid/cap- whatever you want...

Re: Find the problems - win a mug #2
Okay, I looked at mine and they are different- mine are twice the amount of blocks...side by side. and I do have the holed blocks on some of them but they aren't laying down...they are upright when they are used. But I have those flat ones as well being used. And on top they all look alike with that...

Re: Find the problems - win a mug #2
Did dinotoad win? If not, I'd like to give it a try... but I know absolutely nothing about this stuff...dinotoad has my vote. But I'd change/edit the answer with: But those blocks with holes...I'd go with alternating flat blocks without holes with alternating with holes. So in this situation I'd use...
