Re: Double Wide Creation (Renewal)

Thank you for that Greg S. I will be sure to insulate my skirting very well! Now if I read correctly you need 1 vent for every 150sqft of floor space? How does one keep it temp controlled with all those vents?

Re: Double Wide Creation (Renewal)

Yes. I will be doing the drainage all the way around both halves. Basically putting the house on a hill, (my plan is 1" per 1' to get a 10 inch drop in 10 feet of run). I will be sure to post how things work out after next winter. :D

Re: Double Wide Creation (Renewal)

Okay so for frost heave to occur you need three basic factors: subfreezing temps, frost susceptible soil, and sufficient moisture in said soil. Eliminating one of these three factors will basically absolve your frost heave. So in order to remove one I will do water. I live very high above the water ...

Re: Double Wide Creation (Renewal)

Okay I have been reading tons on what is known as a Frost Free Foundation. And I think that this will be the route I take. This will all be doable using my mother in laws Kubota tractor to dig around the perimeter of both houses. Once this is done I will forge ahead on the roof construction which wi...

Re: Double Wide Creation (Renewal)

Thanks for the ideas guys. My father in law has one of those rotary hammers and I'll look around for one of those bits. While I do agree with you Greg S I'm a pretty young fella yet and haven't learned all my "what the hecks have I gotten myself into" yet, so I'm going to forge ahead on th...

Double Wide Creation (Renewal)

Okay my previous thread was locked due to I assume inactivity. It has been a seriously cold winter in my area and now that spring is working on springing I will be getting back to work on this whole mess. Re: Double Wide Creation

Greg - The 84 single already matches up with the 76 the way that we want it to. The rooms are spaced where we need them the only one that has to be changed is where the current kitchen is in the 84 will be gutted and built into a bedroom, and the living area will stay a living area connected with th...

Re: Double Wide Creation

I had already thought about the deck between, but we are planning to put our next child in the bedroom we will be building into the secondary single. That bedroom will have a temporary doorway into the master to allow us to hear the new little one crying. (Keep in mind this little one isn't created ...

Re: Double Wide Creation

Ponch - you are correct that I have the two homes 1 foot apart and will be building "hallways" between them. I was using the term breezeways which is incorrect of course. Each connecting hallway will be framed in, insulated, covered housewrapped and sided. The roof over each hall will be p...

Re: Double Wide Creation

All things have been cleared with the building office. We are already in search of another frame to cut the I beams to fasten under both homes. A full roof over is in the plans to cover both singles as one. The aluminum siding from the 76 will be coming off next spring to be replaced with smart sidi...

Re: Double Wide Creation

Just thought I'd give a quick view of the belly. The belly wrap was ripped straight in half from front to back for what was probably a few years. Fortunately every single joist looks to be in fantastic shape and will be good for building on. Most of the plumbing will be coming out and free up a lot ...

Double Wide Creation

Hello folks, my wife and I have been living in a 1976 single wide for a few years now while looking for something bigger. Nothing has come up in our price range except a “decent” 1984 Kit single wide. The price on the Kit was unbeatable at a whopping moving fee. I did the take down and am doing the ...
