Re: Need advice to prevent another disaster
of course it would be best to replace or repair the underbelly with the proper materials that are made for this, but for a quick fix, polyethylene sheets can be used. this can be purchased at most home improvement stores, it comes in various thickness (3 mil, 4 mil , 6 mil). I used the 4 mil because...

Re: Rotting Wood
hell, it doesn't look like ya got much wood left. but from what i've gathered from everything i've read is, you have to sand down, or chop out all of the rotted parts, then cover with epoxy, allow to dry then sister in some wood to fit against the repaired wood. being that u dont have much to work w...

Re: Salvage Wet Insulation ?
Don't think i would feel comfortable re using insulation in places where it counts. BUT, i maybe wouldn't mind using it to insulate my skirting (under crawlspace).thinking i may : glue the insulation to some flattened carboard boxes and wrap in 4 mil plastic and put them against the inside of the sk...

exhaust vent
there is an exhaust vent or pipe on the roof right above the air conditioner/heater of my home. do i need this if my heating/cooling system is all electric and not gas ? I'm wondering if i can remove this and seal the hole up. I dont use gas in my home for anything at all.

Salvage Wet Insulation ?
This from the owens corning website When Fiberglas™ Insulation becomes wet with water, (i.e. rain and or supply water), it will temporarily lose a substantial measure of its thermal resistance (R-value). The spaces between the fibers that were previously occupied by air would then be occupied by wat...

Re: Epic Fail - need advice - metal roof - leak at screw
dipping the screw in sealant is good. covering the entire roof edge with peel and seal does a good job of keeping water away from the screws..... alternatively you could use very small pieces of the peel and seal and individually cover each one.

Re: Skirting Vents?
i think the only way the non vented would possibly work is to be super vigilant about keeping water as far away from the crawlspace as possible, and i know first hand this isn't easy.
i do agree that once the water or excess moisture is present, it has to be vented out.

Re: Skirting Vents?
The following is from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development http://www.cdc.gov/healthyhomes/manufactured_structures.pdf Crawl space foundations are typically ventilated to allow water vapor to escape from the area under the dwelling. In hu...

Re: Skirting Vents?
most of the weatherization programs now use the unvented skirting with the 6 mil liner on ground and the thick material covering the bottom of the mobile home (bottom board). also make sure there are no duct leaks. all those things together help prevent moisture from getting in the home. of course t...

Re: cracks in ceiling
it's a good idea to check those things anyway, but more than likely the cracks are those that are almost the norm for double wides. and are for the most part cosmetic only.

Re: cracks in ceiling
if the cracks in your home are progressing, it's very likely that the home is actively settling or sinking........if the conditions are present on the ground that cause this problem, it doesn't matter if its atop a mountain or mole. (hill) significant settling is not usually a one time event, unless...

Re: cracks in ceiling
not sure if this has anything to do with your problem, but I started noticing cracks in my ceilings a while back, and It was discovered that the home was sinking, or settling too much on one side due to water staying under the mobile home keeping the soil soft. all because of faulty gutters and no p...
