Re: Metal roofing system
Thank you, JD, for your detailed response. That is exactly what I was looking for, and I intend to follow your suggestions. The 1/4" fanfold insulation is a solution I hadn't heard of for use between the metal and felt, and that may be perfect for me. I haven't yet made up my mind concerning th...

Re: Metal roofing system
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of doubling up on the felt, but I can see that it might have benefits. All that's required around here is a single layer of 30# felt, but I'd be willing to add another layer if the budget will cover it, which it should. And concerning the RMax, I'm kind of back...

Metal roofing system
Since I am having to redesign my covered porch, I am at a point where it makes sense to go ahead and completely replace my roof. As I indicated in a previous post, it has two layers of asphalt shingles over 7/16 OSB, and the shingles are falling apart and the OSB is sagging between the trusses. I'm ...

Reference for 2006 International Residential Code
Can anybody tell me a reference for the 2006 International Residential Building Code, particularly as relates to mobile homes? I'm asking because it sounds like the code itself is vast, complex and confusing, and I would like to get a reference that is more targeted and easier to understand--and pre...

Re: Joining porch roof to mobile home
Thanks for the recommendation. Amerimax is just a couple of hundred miles up the road in Plano, so it should be possible to find somebody selling their products retail around here. I've filled out their contact form, so we'll see what they have to say.

Re: Joining porch roof to mobile home
What I've been finding so far comes in around $100.00 per foot. Is this the cost that you're referring to?JD wrote: If you find the right supplier, the cost is not so bad considering the ease of installation and when installed properly will out last wood awnings 2-3 times.

Re: Joining porch roof to mobile home
OK. So by now it's pretty obvious that I'm at a dead end with my original design. Can any of you all recommend another approach that will accomplish the same end? What I'm looking for is sun and rain shelter to cover most or all of a non-attached 7.5' deep deck. Maybe something sufficiently lightwei...

Re: Joining porch roof to mobile home
To try and circumvent codes is going to cause you alot of grief, with the powers at be, your home owners insurance and the structural damage that your home may recieve. This has been an ugly learning experience for me, I can tell you. I started this project about 18 months ago, when the existing 1/...

Re: Joining porch roof to mobile home
Are you completely opposed to posts by the house? Well...not necessarily. The critical thing here is the relationship between the roof of the porch and the roof of the house. Here is why: This mobile home, unlike many, actually has both eaves (about 2' of overhang) and a moderate slope to the roof ...

Joining porch roof to mobile home
I posted about this earlier this week, but it seems to be one of the posts that disappeared. And I've done more research since then anyway, so I can kind of cut to the chase. My question is this: Is there any way to legally (as in, according to the 2006 International Residential Code, which my count...
