RE: Tubular skylight

Hey Guys, We've got a new company down in Carson City installing these in the area right now. I have to admit, in this area they do look interesting! These aren't straight, like JD mentioned. They are rigid and installed with a few elbows. They have some sort of reflective material inside them. Look...

Hi Texas, It would be most helpful if we had the age of your home. Filling out a profile on this site is very important. We don't need a lot of personal details, just your local and info about your home. When I get some down time over the next few weeks, I'm hoping to post some Directions For Postin...

RE: Happy 4th of July, Early!

Funny you should mention that Mark! Even though we work in and around that industry, it just didn't catch on until last month. We all had the DUH moment! None of us are superstitious, nor do we gamble. I guess we're just numb to that stuff I heard on the news that several Jersey casinos were focusin...

Happy 4th of July, Early!

Hi folks, just wanted to wish all of our States members a happy 4th of July! I'll be off for the next 3 days. We've got family coming in and a big celebration here. We can't leave home this time of year. Too much of a fire danger. Temps should reach about 105 by Thursday. With no humidity, we're pri...

RE: glamor tub

I have to agree with Yanita and JD on this one! Those garden tubs, jacuzzi's, etc take a whole lot of water, and time to fill. In my case, in another home, it was cool and unique for about a month, then it turned into a huge pain! I'm a girl. okay, well a much older girl lol! I still love my bubble ...

Hi Gram, Basket always dry out real fast. Yep, they take lots of water when it gets dry! My baskets are the only thing, besides the planters on the back porch that have stayed alive this year... as far as annuals go. My larger planters have all about died. All of my plants are stressing from the dry...

Hi gillard, Welcome to the forum! In most cases down here in the states, anything older than a 1977 home will not have the ID tags on the back of the home. We call these homes pre-huds down here. Pre hud regulations. We own a 73 home. None of that information was available anywhere on our home when ...

Hi Ski. Welcome to the forum! I'm sure that others will add to your list. Right off hand, outside of set up, very important, I can think of making sure that you get the best insulation available! I'm still on the fence about laminate in a retirement home. Here's how I'm looking at our retirement hom...

Hi jinx, So sorry to hear about the loss of your home! Fire is never a good thing. I know the Bullhead city, Laughlin area pretty well. You should have no problem finding repo in that area. I'm not sure how realtors and banks work across the state line down there. I know that between Ca and NV they ...

Happy Canada day to all of our Northern neighbors! I had to laugh Jim, Warren has his 59th birthday in two weeks. He's not looking forward to it so much these days LOL! Stay safe during your celebrations! I'm busy trying to come up with food for the 4th of July here. They've got 2 days to tell me ho...

RE: Skirting flipping up

Hi Indians, Welcome to the forum!

The best and easiest fix is wind rods to hold the skirting down.

If you can't find them locally, Mark sells them here on the site!

Just look under the books and parts link at the top of the page. Scroll down and you'll find them.

RE: vapour barrier

I have to agree with JD on this one! Poly as a ground vapor barrier is just fine, maybe in even Tyveck. We don't have a problem here with moisture from the ground at all. Vapor barriers and belly materials are two different things. If you're replacing the old buffalo board, it's no longer available....

RE: Types of skirting

Hi Julie, Another welcome to the site! I have one statement as far as advice goes, concerning your set up (foundation) and your skirting. I'd highly suggest that you wait until after the rain has tamed itself in your area before installing either! You need to let the ground dry out and settle before...

RE: South Lake Tahoe On Fire!

Thanks Harry! I do use NOAA quite a bit. I don't need a map to tell me how dry it is out here right now! My water bill has gone up about $20.00 keeping the plants and trees half way healthy. Most of that is on a drip system, so $20.00 bucks is a lot in some ways. We've been in a drought situation si...
