RE: FLOORED !!!

Yanita said it all. The previous owner removed all the carpeting from the Kitchen, Dining room, Living room and hall areas and put down Place & Stick, apparently right over the sub flooring. Looked great for a while, but now, after walking over it for 7 months, you can see Lumps and Ridges poppi...

"dab of paint inside on the wall switch plates in the room".

Yanita, this tip has to be one of the smartest one's I've read.
Truly inventive.

We will call it "Yanitas little da will do ya".

RE: Painting Exterior This Weekend.....

As for Spraying house paint. We think of painting cars and how fast it is, but automotive paint dries so fast that over spray is limited in the distance it will travel. If house paint takes 30 minutes to skin over then your over sparay will be in the air for up to 30 minutes. Wondering through the n...

RE: Painting Exterior This Weekend.....

Kilz-2 for vinyl is what I got after the regular Kills failed to dry properly. Our enclosed porch has the original vinyl siding as the inside wall. I experimented on that before going outside. I am going to get Valspar Duramax for vinyl, but I might have to use Kilz-2 first if the Duramax doesn't co...

We ended up doing a similar thing, but with a large paint brush, jabbing it into the drywall compound that we spread on first. The texturing GRIT you ad to a gallon of paint that we tried first was a Stucco Looking disaster. The drywall compound thinned down is definitely the way to go for a profess...

Jagged holes in skirting-TIP

There are rough, jagged holes in our skirting around most of the foundation. I thought they were from previous owners using a weed whacker with steel wire, but I figured out that they are from rotary mowers with the side discharge shoot open. We have a big Oak tree over us and the nuts that come fro...

RE: 3 season room

I would think that a "Substantial" structure would be expensive. Our house had a 12 X28 foor all season porch built onto it around the time the house was built. The original owner was a carpenter. It is not a porch that would blow away in a hurricane though. All wood with heavy roof, 8 Dou...

RE: Vinyl siding paint-flat or satin

Thanks JD. I have looked at most of the brands and of course they all say they are the best. I started looking at SW in the beginning and then went to others. I like your use of "goober up". It sounds like a real professions term. Also I like your mention of thicker spreading. Years ago I ...

Vinyl siding paint-flat or satin

Which do you prefer? or is best?

Is there Any Brand that you see as being better then others.
I read that 5-gallon containers are cheaper then by the gallon.

It's getting cooler outside, so I'm getting inspired.

RE: Chaulky coating and cracked

I was hoping to just make do with these for now because when we put in the next 2 windows they will each get new shutters like the first window we did.
Thanks any way. I hadn't thought of the silicone.

Chaulky coating and cracked

The other 4 shutters I have are coated with, I think, an oxidation of the 21 year old white paint. http://mobilehomerepair.com/phpbb/userpix/716_rsz_152_Crooked_Islans_Circle_030_1.jpg I made a line on the left shutter to show the cracks, if you can see it. These shutters are cracked horizontally in...

RE: How Vinyl Shutters are attached

Strange you should ask. We just had some installed along with our new window. They are green Vinyl and had no pre-drilled holes. They did come with a package of 12 plastic, barbed screw thingies, for lack of a better name. You drill a 1/4 inch hole 3 inches deep and force them into the hole through ...

It would be interesting, but might be too scary because of moldy and rotted area. It would be rate "R" for rot. It might get a lot of viewers once the word got around. This site might have something like U-Tube, but for only repairs and video help. I for one would be an avid viewer. They c...
