vinyl siding-stud bleed through?
Baby blue siding. Yuk. On both ends of the house there are faint beige marks that correspond to the studs underneath [no underlayment]. From all appearances the siding and all the trim including large wood panels under the windows are original from 1987. The siding is not touching these studs, but j...

Will you do ours next? I'll give free beer and sandwiches.

RE: range exhaust fan replacement
When we moved in ours was in bad shape and it too had a rectangular duct out the rear and through the wall. The silly thing was that the duct went through the wall and into the fully enclosed sun porch. Not an Aluminum porch but a solid house type structure. We bought a brand new one at the "Ha...

RE: Wall recepticals not attached to studs?
It's a sad day for the building industry when they start doing that. This house reminds me of the movie "The Money Pit", but on a much smaller scale. It is fun though because I am retired and love working with my hands. I should start a Blog on it. They might buy it as a movie. They could ...

Wall recepticals not attached to studs?
I'm like a kid in a candy store on this site. It offers so much. Well then, to my question. There are a number of interior electrical wall outlets that are NOT attached to studs, but only through the thin paneling below the chair rails. They flex when you put a plug in. Was this normal and acceptabl...

RE: No exterior underlayment?
The house was here through hurricane Hugo and none of the homes here had any appreciable damage from it. It has 2x4 exterior studs with 2x3 interior studs. The DW we had in Nevada for 21 years was similar but sat on a concrete foundation which made it a regular house according to the Insurance compa...

RE: No exterior underlayment?
I see what you mean about adding structural strength. Like a cardboard box that is not closed on both ends. We are in one of the Humidity capitals of the us. South of Myrtle Beach SC. I will be getting estimates for the cost of new Vinyl and siding wrap and sheathing. I can't do it myself physically...

No exterior underlayment?
I was just advised that I was accepted as a member here so I thought I would pick your minds. We recently bought a 1987 Craftsman double wide with attached sun porch. It is in very fine condition, but needed some interior trim work, paint and other little things. The outside is, of course, Vinyl sid...
