alrighty then.
new, 2007 cavalier powerhouse.
inside electric furnace. no a/c hookup-installed yet.
all vents on both sides of home blow a LOT of air. all about equal in airflow.
vents on FURNACE side of house blow lukewarm air. vents on opposite side blow burning hot air.
now the fun really starts.
yesterday, new heat pump installed. 4 ton unit, air-sourced.
new thermostat installed to accomodate heat-pump/emergency heat function.
now guess what?
the vents on the furnace side blow the same amount of airflow and yes, warmer air now with the heat pump ON.
the vents on the opposite side of the house have almost NO airflow but have slightly warmer air.
same for the cooling function of the heat pump.
vents on furnace side blow a lot of air and cool air.
vents on opposite side have almost NO airflow yet do blow cool air.
i realise the heat pump unit required the 'blower' to be bumped up from med-high to high.
is there an equalization flapper or some other damper that could be effected?
thanks for your time
crazy airflow and temperature situation
Hi,
Reading that gave me a headache. What a mind boggler. Is the home and/or unit still under warranty ?
If so, then that is route to take.
Otherwise, shouldn't be any damper unless you have a packaged heat pump.
However, newer homes keep adding parts not normal in other older homes, so w/o seeing it cannot say for sure there is not a damper.
You can remove ALL register grilles, lay a bright light down in duct at one end, then go to next register, hold a mirror down in duct and look back toward the light.
Do this on both sides trunklines and if nothing seen unusual, time to go under home and check cross-over duct(s) and collar connectors for a damper.
However, first part of your post says a LOT of air from both sides, so a damper being involved is unlikely.
Any good hvac tech worth his/her salt should be able to resolve this in person and on site.
Very difficult from here for me to do as seeing is big part of these problems.
Let me know after checking ducts and I'll see if I can help any further.
Thanks for inquiring,
Robert
