My compressor is going belly up - It's already got a hard start kit on it, so I know its days are numbered. I've been getting quotes to replace the unit with a split heat pump, and I've got some questions. It currently has a 3 ton/10 seer unit on it, which is really not enough oomph. We asked about having a 4 ton on it , but the dealership insisted the 3 would be fine.
My home is 2025 sqft (28x70), and two of the quotes I've gotten list a 4 ton 14 SEER Heat Pump condensing unit in the quote. These two quotes are around the $6K mark. The other quote lists a 4 ton 13 SEER condensing unit, and is $4500. Obviously I like this last quote, but what is the difference in the 13 vs the 14?
New unit time, question.
Hi,
Have a Manual J Load Calculation done to know exact size needed. You can go to
www.hvac-talk.com and look at top tool bar and click on HVAC Calc for a homeowner version that
is acceptable.
I would say a 4 ton minimum here without the load calculation, so definitely need to get one done.
13 seer is minimum available now, so that is lowest seer or bottom seer unit.
The higher the seer, the more efficient the system.
However, only you know what is affordable to you.
Thanks,
Robert
