Hi, this is my first time posting a question although ive followed the board for some time. Im in the process of removing a whirlpool tub and building a closet in its spot. Under the tub in the drain line there is a screw on vent. The drain line connects to the drian from the sink then runs to the toilet and shower drain approximately 6 foot away. My question is can i simply do away with the scew on vent so its not protruding above the floor, by capping the line? What purpose do they serve other then reducing the gurgling sound and helping to increase the water flow?

Thanks for your Help.

How about relocating the vent to under the sink?

Hi & welcome. As the commodore said, I would move the vent under the sink. It should be a quick & easy move.
