Hello!! I am having a problem (or so I think) and I need a bit of advise. I purchased a Whirlpool Natural Gas hot water heater in April 2012. Model # N40T61-343. Since my son moved out and I have been the only one in the house, I have barely heard the hot water heater kick on. But just today, it seemed to kick on more than I think it should. I timed it once and it was only 14 minutes from one cycle to the next. Now mind you I am NOT using hot water. I washed a load of clothes at 0900 and this (14 min) cycle was at 1853. I have checked under the house for leaks (which was always a tell tale sign of a hot water line break) and have not found one. So, with this being so new of a hot water heater, what in the world could be wrong?? Could it possibly be the thermostat?? I tried to turn the temperature from Hot to Med (between low and Hot)..but it still is kicking on. I know something is wrong, I just don't know what direction to go. I greatly appreciate your help!!!!!!

My guess is the thermostat

I'd have to guess a leak you have not yet found.

I would prefer the thermostat......over the leak any day.....however here is a little more info....I turned it on to VAC to see what happens. It has not kicked on at all today. I know it is suppose to remain in vacation mode.....but if there was a leak wouldn't it kick on to heat the water?? I have had hot water leaks before and if this is that.....it has to be a gusher....because it never has kicked on this many times in a day. I don't hear or see anything of the kind......and under my house is pretty exposed...due to all the problems I have had in the past.

I think VAC just keeps the pilot on?

I would contact Whirlpool and get their opinion. It still should have at least some warranty left.
