I am thinking about putting in a whole home water filter to catch some the iron, rust and sediment that keeps coming my M-H and getting into the washing machine and other fixtures.
The ones I see at Home Depot and Lowes run about $60.00.
Who uses these and do they really work?
Will these filters reduce the water pressure in my M- home, the package of one of them it said that it wouldn't reduce the water pressure.
Would an in-line water filter that goes between the water intake and washing machine work also or instead?
Any info would be great.
Thanks.

I got a whole home filter from lowes. I buy the filters in bulk online. It does well for catching the sediment. But if your problem is scale, it's not going to improve a whole lot.

A filter system is a lot smaller and less costly than a softener, but I doubt the will work as well. I think for the cost I would try one.

How much space is required for one of these units? Does it mount on a wall? I'd love to install one of these in my home, but I'm unsure if I have enough space to do it...my supply lines and pressure tank are jammed in a small closet space before going through a wall to my bathroom shower. I suppose I could install it inside the WH closet, but then some of my bathroom fixtures before the WH will not get filtered(like the toilet tank).jpingram5 wrote:I got a whole home filter from lowes. They can be wall mounted with a bracket. The one that I got did come with a mounting bracket to secure it for when you have to crank the housing off to change the filter.
This is the one I have, its a heavy duty style uses bigger filters

I don't think the filter will take out the iron that you have. It will help with the sediment but from what I have been told to get rid of iron you need a larger system.
Check out this info on iron.

I have one filter setup at the main water coming into the home. These are the filters I use:

Have to replace them about every 2-3 months. But they filter out a lot of the sediment. I'll have to snap a picture of what it looks like after use.
I then have one under my kitchen sink. This one:

Lasts me about 6 months.
