I tried finding an answer before posting this, but we have a 1980 Victorian that has the hard, black underbelly material. We need to do some repairs before fall and I don't know if the materials available here would adhere to the existing material under our home.

We are also putting the plastic down as a vapor barrier, around all the existing piers, will this be helpful in controlling the moisture? And as far as skirting goes, do you have to have insulation behind it, whether using metal or vinyl? We live in NW PA.

I've replaced the windows, the roof and added gutters since my last visit on this site, so it is coming along! Thanks for your help.

It sounds like you may have the old Buffalo board belly. It is a fiber type board usually about a half inch thick.

You should be able to use the cloth type material and attach it by sandwiching between the good board and a 1x4 with screws,

Heavy plastic will help block moisture. For skirting you can't beat metal.
