I don't think you have to worry if you did change the valve and then use the threaded end connected to it and then the toilet you could easily change it every five years or so if you are afraid of breakage. I would think that the plastic nut types are in 40 to 60% of houses today and they don't break very often. Like I stated about it was either real old or someone tightened it to tight and it started to crack. Or possibly started to freeze over the winter.

I was at Lowes, They have the braided connectors with Brass nuts.

I may try that, or just keep the pex and install new ends on them. (maybe get the crimp tool and learn for myself, guess I should learn anyways..lol)

I would go with the crimped brass on the pex and connect the braided tube to that.
