I had to buy a new range hood vent that goes on the vinyl siding. If you look at the picture, you remove the 2 screws you can see and the vent comes out of the backing plate. There is supposed to be sealant between them. Im not sure what they used on my original one but it is grey and VERY sticky. Even after 14 years its very sticky still. Wondering what to use on my new one?

I personally would go with a good Silicone caulk.

Look at duct seal. It is a grey, putty like product, used to seal around electrical conduits, etc. It comes in a brick. Rope caulk may work too.

Electrical, iirc. It's wrapped in white plastic.
Go to their web site and search "DUCT SEAL."

It's called putty tape, butyl tape, mastic tape. Comes in a coil, usually about 3/4" wide. Around $6 per,and iit's enough to do about 2-1/2 windows, so plenty for your needs.

butyl tape is the good stuff. I use it for many kinds repairs. It will stay soft and can be a bear to scrape off even after many years. First learned about it trying to peel back roof aluminum on an old motorhome. Became a believer on the spot.

But if it were me, I would probably go with silicone for this usage.
