Pilot will not stay lit..

I have a 1987 Coleman model 7966-856 furnace that the pilot light will sometimes go out after the heat cycle. I am pretty sure it is a backdraft problem. I first noticed this problem several years ago after the pilot light had been off for a summer. When I had the pilot light unit out, I noticed a rusty piece of metal hanging down in the chamber. Was this some type of draft baffle? I think that moisture built during that summer while the pilot was off and caused it to rust through, but just guessing. Can that piece be replaced, or do i need to start saving for a new furnace :( .

Before I would replace furnace, I would suggest a Tech be called to look at it and consult on it.

Not sure what the piece is you refer to without being there to see it.

Thanks,
