crossover duct

I am looking at putting a suspended ceiling in my basement but first must get rid of the isulated flex duct that connects both halves of the house. What would be the result of cutting into the one trunk to duct to the other side than plugging the old hole?

Hi,

Since you want to alter your duct work I am going to move this thread over to the HVAC forums. The tech over there, Robert, will be able to best advise.

Hi,

If you got old holes sealed good and made good connections at the trunks and used same size duct, would probably be ok.

However, you may run into problems with things being in way.

Also needs to go from area very close to furnace and also is best to be from bottom of duct as furnace will be blowing downward forcefully and a side take off would be passed over by most of the air.

Will be a risky attempt at something requiring much research and trial and error.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert
