Cost estimations on raised roof and basement?

We're definitely thinking of raising the roof sometime in the near future. In all likelihood, the only labor we would be hiring is one handyman that we could get at a decent price. Just for materials, how much would that cost? And how long would it take?

We're probably not doing the basement any time soon, but I'm still curious.

Hi,

Raising the roof ??? Could you please give us some details as to how you plan on doing this. I will say I believe something like raising the roof height will require an engineers report.

As to cost...hmmm, wouldn't even dare to go there.

As for a basement, again, another engineers report, excavation will be your largest cost, can't give estimates there either as I do not know what your soil is like. In other words..where I live now, 3 shovel fulls of dirt and you can get water pretty quickly, up North one shovel full of dirt and you might need to blast the area...
