Just thinking about keeping the water lines from freezing....can you even put heat tape on the pex water lines?

You would have to get a heat tape that is approved for use on pex lines. Are the pex lines under your home or inside. I would only worry about heat taping where main water line is in ground till where it enters home. You can use foam or fiberglass wrap on exposed inside lines, it won't hurt. no such thing as overkill in my books when comes to keepin lines from freezing.

As always, follow the tape manufacturers instructions to the letter.
