I have a 1979 single wide with a good amount of rotted particle board sub flooring(mainly under the windows), which needs repairing. I am going to repair it with 3x4 T&G OSB. Instead of framing the opening up the standard way, with joist hanger then putting edge support in between, I was thinking of sistering 2 2x6 to the rim joist with two feet of overlap. This would give me about one inch of edge support while minimizing the amount of wood butchering i must do. What do you think?
Sounds like a good idea to me. As long as you've got room to add some support for the new flooring, it should work nicely. Are you gluing the OSB in addition to nailing it?
I've got some floor damage in my home as well (OSB) and a previous occupant had replaced the 3/4 OSB with 1/2 inch plywood, so I've got to tear all that out and do it right.
