I removed the batten strip, and there were no seams, it was just decorative!
Then I popped off the trim on the side of the door and saw that the wall board was cracked from the bottom of the floor to the highest ginormous nailhead that was put in place, I'm assuming to repair.

On the right you can see where the nails held the "decorative strip" on the wall

Should I remove this panel?
Any thoughts?

It might be that the wallboard is broken from the back side, can't tell exactly from picture. If there isn't a stud behind that piece of board(in the middle) it may be the reason for the breakage.

If you don't like the way it looks and can repair it, do so. If not find a handy person to help.

The wall feels so solid when I press on it, if the wallboard was cracked wouldn't it give a little?

It's possible that the short wall behind the wall board isn't straight. I don't think 1/2 inch wall board will bend that much and not be broken.
There should be nails/screws where each stud runs vertical in the wall. 930

You will find that Mobile homes are very rarely made to 100% specifications, It is not uncommon that walls are a "little" off. I'm sure if you take a close look around you can find more things that arn't quite straight. Some times they get a buy on materials such as wall studs that hav a slight bow in them, Just dig through a pile of "quality" studs at any home center and you will see for yourself. Greg

Greg can I plane the stud with a power sander or planer to level it out, then re-attach the wall panel or replace the panel with a section of drywall?

You should be able to, but it may be easier to cut the old stud out and sister in a new one. Greg
