Insulating Vent Stack

I have what looks like about a 4" space around the vent pipe itself as it goes thru the ceiling. I have noticed an immense amount of heat pours down thru this during the summer. Does this cause a loss in the efficiency of my cooling with A/C? If so...what do you recommend? I have a Coleman Presidential model.

Usually this pipe will have a metal collar where it makes the penetration at the ceiling. You can cut a circle out of a metal piece then cut it in half. This will allow you to install it without removing the pipe. I would like to see a picture if you can post one.

What ever you end up doing do not use any combustible material to close this gap.

There doesn't seem to be any insultion close to the pipe. Would it hurt to stuff some in there (with out the paper of course)?
