My furnace has been randomly not kicking on when the thermostat drops below the set temp. My husband can get it to restart by removing and replacing the safety disconnect, and that works for a few days, then it does it again. Any ideas as to why?

Usually caused by a bad sequencer, limit or breaker/fuse disconnect.

Is there a way to narrow down which part by testing? If so, how?

Hi,

At each element coil, there is a spade terminal on a ceramic base at far left end and far right end.

Left side goes to sequencers, right side to limits.

Test left, then right side of each to ground for 120VAC.

IF you have 120VAC, the sequencers, limits and disconnects are ok.

If not, they may be bad .

IF you don't get 120vac on right side, jumper the limit.

If you get 120vac then, limit is bad . If still no 120vac, disconnect is bad or a loose connection.


If no 120vac on left side, sequencer is bad if it is getting 24vac to sequencer heater coils at bottom of sequencer.
