Coleman AC - A-Coil Freezing

I have an older Coleman Dual AC/Furnace. This spring I noticed the A-Coil freezing over with ice. I turn off the AC and just put on Stand-By and leave the fan running. It will cool for about 30-45 minutes and then freezes again. I'm not concerned now but in July-August in Alabama it will get really hot.. What can I check on the AC side ? I noticed the outside condenser has a lot of the fins bent at the bottom..

Hi,

Do these first :

http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/hvac/ar ... lower.html

That ensures that the condenser outside, A-Coil inside, blower motor and wheel, as well as the filter are clean.

You can get fin combs and carefully try to straighten the fins on outside condenser coils.

Normal causes are the above being dirty (one or more) or your unit having a leak and a low refrigerant charge.

IF all the above does not correct it, then call an hvac tech to check the charge, look for leak if low and repair before recharging.

Thanks,
Robert
