Hi, I am replacing my old oil furnace(approx. 1976 Coleman) with a gas furnace in my mobile home. Gas is now available. Will I have to worry about the BTU output of the new furnace. I am not sure yet as to the size of the duct. I was hoping to be able to put in a used unit with approx. 60,000 to 90,000 BTU downdraft.
Another question I have is about the venting. How can I use the old chimney from the old oil furnace as the vent for the new gas one. If I buy the correct gas unit will I be able to naturally vent. I am trying to avoid tearing the old one out and having to do roof repair. Maybe put the vent inside of the existing one?
Replacing Oil Furnace With Gas
Hi,
You would need to do a Manual J Load Calculation to know exact size needed. If it heated adequately before, probably same size needed again.
It will need to be a gas furnace rated for mobile homes also.
You will need a new roof jack to be compatible with the furnace you select.
Thanks,
Robert
