Hello,
Looking at a new titan home. After "living/fixing" a 1977 mobile for 21 years.... moving on.. swapping out our old one for a new one.
Should we order one with a 200 amp circuit or the standard 100 amp system? How Much is it to upgrade in the future? Why would someone need 200 amp? If I wanted to go solar in say 15 years?
What is better Oil heat or gas? [We live in New Hampster]
Any Comments on Titan Homes? I'm looking at this model

I will admit I did not have time to read all the links you posted, off the top of my head...
Extra insulation, plywood floors, larger framing, traditional windows/doors etc...this is to name a few.
There was a post about this recently, I think within the last 3 weeks, you can do a search for it. I am sure others will chime in.
As for the type of heat you use that is something we can not really give a fair accounting of...it will all depend on your home, your temp settings, and the cost of fuel per gal vs. kilowatt hour.

Did I miss what type of plumbing this home has?
I do not know what your electrical needs are, but I would certainly go with a 200amp service panel, even if you go solar, 15 years is a long time to be without if you need it now.
Will you have a garage or multiple storage sheds, possible pool or water feature in the future....

To me the setup is really really important. Be sure you get your hands on the "Manufactures Installation Manual" and make sure your setup crew follows it all the way. This manual will include the proper grading of the site so all that rain will be directed away from the home...so on and so forth.

Aside from the roof leak, soft floors, rats, mice and bursted plumbing ........ how do you like it?
Depends on how you look at it. This is an asphalt impregnated sheathing, usually OSB. For what I have seen used on older mobile homes, this would be a premium product for mobile home use. I haven't had to repair siding on real late model homes, so I am not sure why they use it. It may be an adequate moisture barrier that allows them to forgo home wrap or similar material. I wouldn't think that it would add a lot to the cost compared to standard OSB. There are foam insulated sheathing panels that would be a more expense and more premium product. They will typically have twice the R value of asphalt impregnated sheathing. I really doubt that any manufactured home builders use it though.

Three possibilities come to mind. 30# roofing, is ther a heavier option? 1/2" sheetrock, can you get it throughout the home. not just living & dining room? 200 Amp service, too easy to order now rather than upgrade later. Greg

Costs to retrofit later include: permits, upgrading the service wires, mast and/or conduit, possibly a new meter, probably a new panel box. You will have to contact and pay the local electrical supplier so they can cut off the existing power and upgrade the wiring to your unit. If you are in a park, 200 Amp may not be an option.
Costs range up to $1800, depending on the length of service wires, permits, and other hardware costs.
